Schneider Drivers Please Respond! Is Schneider a good way to start a truck driving career?

Do you feel that there training program is good & thorough enough? I know the pay is a bit low to start since they train you. Do you like driving for them? Are they a good company and a good way to get started driving? What is like on the road for days at a time. What is like living in your rig & eating mostly at rest stops? Any tips for a beginner? Please tell me!!

  1. no I would not go for that company becouse they will pay for the driving classes but what they do not tell you is that if you quit before 2 years is up you have to pay them back for the classes and I have been told that it is about $10,000 and the classes are only for a week. I would just go to a truck driving school that you can pay for yourself and than get a job anywhere you want. It is cheaper. My husband has been a truck driver for 11 years. Good Luck
  2. No, stay away from them. The newer you are, the less money you are making, the more miles you get. As soon as you get a raise in your cents-per-miles, your miles will drop. And they will not hesitate to make you layover even if you are less than an hour away from home. Oh, and don't expect to see much of home for a long while when you are new there.... you will be out for many, many weeks at a time.
  3. Want some real honest advice. RUN.....don not walk....AWAY from a career in truck driving. it really is a stupid way to earn a living. Long hours....VERY long hours. Lots of time away from home if you are over the road. LOTS of time away from home. DO NOT be lured by promises by truck driving recruiters that will paint a rosy picture of the job. How do I know? 34 years of driving the damned things. You ever want a somewhat normal family life...watch your kids grow up...go watch your son hit his first baseball in a little league game...watch your daughter take her fist step...don't count on it driving a truck...you're 1500 miles away sitting in a truck cab in some dirty truck stop wondering why you ever climbed into a cab in the first place! This isn't some B.S. response. it really is a dumb way to earn a living.
