Is getting a career before "officially" going to college a bad idea?

Since the cost of college tuition is getting pretty damn ridiculous, and I did not want to end up paying off loans for the rest of my life, I decided that I wanted to go into a Nursing program at a local community college - so that I would have a manner of paying for school when I decided to begin my education on a large scale. I found it somewhat disturbing when I discovered, then, that some institutions would not allow you to transfer and continue with your education if you had the equivalent of two years of college work under your belt. The Nursing program that I am now enrolled in is exactly two years, and I'm wondering whether or not I will not be allowed to continue at a better university because of this. I know that I should probably be asking people at the schools that I'm interested in, but I wanted to inquire first whether or not there was a blanket policy regarding whether career training courses counted toward transfer credits that would not be "allowed" at universities.

  1. You can take your 2 yrs and transfer them into a 4 yr and grad school.. You can look around at other programs. You can get far in the nursing field with a 2 yr degree and experiance under your belt... Most places look at your experiance rather then just a degree...... If you cant find a program that will take your 2 yr degree, that 1 class less then u need to graduate . That way u officialy dont have your 2 yr degree.... It can be a history or english class that u didnt take.. But talk to the school U want to do your 4 yrs in and see what they say... ALL Major and state Univeristies have a community collage affiliated with them........
  2. There is no blanket policy. It depends upon the schools involved. They choose which credits to allow. I think you made a very smart decision. Good luck.
