Army, Air Force, Coast Guard or Navy...no Marines...I am joining...which is a better medical career and why??

My friend took the ASVAB today and is getting ready to enlist. She has been talking to Army recruiters, but is not sure where she sould enlist. Can you give her some advice or help about which branch offers better medical training and careers? Thanks in advance!!!

  1. If you want to be a Doctor, It would be the Navy or Army
  2. Well, the Marine Corps does not have a medical field, so you can rule it out.
  3. ummm idk....you can talk to my brother he is in the NAVY he is doing great.....he used to be a complete ass too me but he is really nice now..they straightened him out..lol www.myspace.com/mikeirons
  4. First off, tell her thank you from all of us veterans for wanting to enlist. Being an Army person, I would suggest the Army, but when stationed with the other three once and travel ling to other bases, I'd say Air Force, but make sure what ever she is promised, she get it in writing, carry a copy with her and leave copies of the contract in a safe place back home.
  5. Navy or Army...you can get money from them to go to medical school
  6. Definetly the Navy. I was in the Marines and our unit had some really good Medics. They teach them everything they need to know for all sorts of injuries, not just combat-related ones.
  7. The Navy is known for their medical careers. They are easily transfered into the civilan world. The Navy was great hospitals that are located all over world. Look into were bases are for each branch and then see where you would like to live. Pick from that. In the navy you might have to spend time on a floating cities, which is a boat. So if like the ocean go Navy if you like land go Army.
  8. I think Rett S. was pretty right on, Navy and Army seem the best routes and can probably guarantee you a medical job. I'm in the Coast Guard but the medical field is relatively small and we can't guarantee anyone a job in it out of bootcamp. I'm sure the air force has good facilities and opportunities, but doesn't deal with many casualties outside of flying the injured to military hospitals in Europe and the US (although that is pretty huge).
  9. I would strongly suggest that you look into the Air Force they will give your friend the BEST training and she will have the absolute BEST quality of life... the army is not so. Think about it there is a reason that the army is desperate for people right now.. the army and the marines are the ones getting killed you almost never hear of an Airmen getting shot. I spent 10 years in the AF and I saw all services and by far the AF has the best of the best. They are even offering BIG signing bonuses for medical career fields...
  10. I think your best bet would be Air Force or Navy. Navy seems to have a very good medical program, but the Air Force is known for it's appeal as the most "brainy" branch. Explore both of their websites and see what you can dig up. I would also recommend searching around on www.usmilitary.about.com Very educational. Either way, I don't think you'll regret it. God's blessings and my thanks! (I could never stand needles... eek!)
  11. well i just enlisted up for the army and i got 68P which is radiology guaranteed in my contract. i would suggest considering the army. i had a wonderful recruiter he pulled some strings to get me what i wanted mostly because i got a high score on my asvab and I'm Hispanic. but make sure you have your job guaranteed and good luck and welcome to the family if you join
  12. The army has great training and opportunities in the medical field. I just got done with AIT and feel pretty good about the training I got. Im a 68W, combat Medic, and our training was only 18 weeks. Most medical MOS's are much longer than that. 68W is very similar to being a Paramedic in the Civilian world except in the military you can do what ever your Dr. says you can do. I got to skip the first 8 weeks of my training because I am a Paramedic so I cant tell you how that part went. But overall its a good program and if your interested in being a medic i would definately suggest you try that. You can always continue on and become a nurse or Dr. Good luck and welcome to the service.
