Any ideas for career change in the baltimore area or NY or elsewhere?

I am in my late 40's and pretty desperate for money. I am with an equivalent of 2 years college degree from another country, pretty smart but probably not enough to settle my career after so many years. Any ideas? Maybe a short training for something with demand??? Any self employmaent idea? Thanks in advance for any helpfull information!!! It's great to see so many helpfull people in Yahoo questions!
